About Us

Bromont Horse Trials

Bromont regularly welcomes some of the best horse-and-rider combinations across three competitions each summer: the MARS Bromont CCI4*, Petit or Little Bromont and the August Bromont CCI4*.
In 2024 Bromont will be the only venue to offer FEI recognized international levels of eventing in Canada.

With a venue considered among the best in the world and cross-country courses designed by Derek DiGrazia (USA) and Jay Hambly (CAN), the MARS Bromont CCI4*, Little Bromont and August Bromont CCI4* offer a true test for horse and rider in the perfect ‘summer resort’ setting.

In 2022 Bromont hosted the only North American leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup™ series

The Bromont Horse Trials are made possible in part through a contribution from Sport Canada. The Bromont organizing committee also wishes to thank the Government of Quebec, and the City of Bromont for their support.

The Importance of Eventing at Bromont

Each of Canada’s equestrian teams went to the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile with the goal of winning a medal but more importantly they went to secure Canada’s qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. All three teams were successful in their attempts, and Canada is now qualified to send dressage, show jumping and three-day eventing teams to Paris this summer. Dunham, Quebec’s Colleen Loach and Windsor, Ontario’s Lindsay Traisnel were on the gold medal winning Canadian team, and Traisnel brought home the individual bronze medal. Both competed in the MARS Bromont CCI4*-L in June of 2023.

About Organizer Sue Ockendon

Sue’s goal has always been to see the sport of eventing thrive and be enjoyed by as many people as possible. Through the years Sue has always championed the development of young talent.

The Knowlton, QC., native started organizing the Bromont three-day event in 1987, hosting multiple international events and Young Rider championships. She is one of the driving forces in eventing, not only in Canada but also in South America.

As an FEI Eventing Level 3 technical delegate and an organizer, Sue has always placed emphasis on the excellence of the cross country course, through the fence design and safety, as well as footing quality. Sue continues to recruit only the best officials, course designers and TD’s with years of experience in the Olympics or World Equestrian Games.

For many years, Sue has officiated in North America and parts of Central/South America (Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile), always striving to improve the quality and safety of cross country courses at home and abroad. Her ongoing passion project is the U25 Bromont Rising program, where she helps develop talented young riders in Canada and across North America.

What is Equestrian Eventing?

The Olympic sport of Three-Day Eventing is a combination of the elegance in dressage and the accuracy in show jumping, with the speed and bravery of cross-country. The same horse and rider combination complete all three phases together, which is why eventing is often referred to as an equestrian triathlon. It’s widely known as the most spectacular and exhilarating sport in equestrianism. The sport enjoys regional, national and international popularity, especially as amateurs regularly compete against Olympic and World Champions and where women and men compete alongside one another on equal footing.
